Last night while surfing, I stumbled across an old thread on NC.com that I had seen in the past, but thought had died.
One of the posters on the thread said she had tried Shawnette's Curly Pudding and really liked the results.
Of course, this peaked my interest, so I found Shawnette's posts in the thread, and luckily her website "Mixology 101" was/is in her siggie.
After looking around her site a bit, I found the recipe that was being raved about along with some really adorable pictures. Pictures of others who had used the pudding, and wow, talk about some cute curls!! I hope very much that she doesn't mind me posting a link here, but I just wanted to share this with you if you haven't already seen it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
The ingredients are fairly simple, things that I already had in the house, but if you're not a mixologist - no big deal - the ingredients should be easily found at a beauty supply and/or health food store.

I chose to make the "Extra Moisture Version", and I'm very glad I did.
I had to tweak it a bit, only because of the ingredients that I had on hand.
To make mine, I used:
1 jar IC Hair Polisher Styling Gel
4oz Aloe Vera Gel (I used Fruit of the Earth brand)
4oz Cocoa butter (This is what I had on hand)
1oz Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1oz Coconut oil (Again - I just used what I had).
4oz Aloe Vera Gel (I used Fruit of the Earth brand)
4oz Cocoa butter (This is what I had on hand)
1oz Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1oz Coconut oil (Again - I just used what I had).
I followed the instructions, and added the IC gel and aloe vera gel to the butter and oil gradually.
At first, when I started to add the gel, I panicked! It looked like it was going to turn out to be a curdled mess! But, I took a deep breath and continued to whip (fortunately, I have a very nice mixer:)). After several minutes the mixture started to smooth - it became less and less lumpy.
This was the end result:
As you can see, the consistency is relatively creamy, and boy oh boy - do I have a lot of it!!
So after I made the pudding...you know I had to try it, right? So, I took my spray bottle out, dampened a few sections of my hair really good, and started to apply. It went on very smooth and creamy, but with no left over residue. I actually thought I'd have white goobies everywhere in my hair - at least until it dried anyway, but it didn't do that^-^. And I'm not sure if it was the aloe vera or not, but my hair felt immediently hydrated!! Very nice!!
After those sections dried, I was surprised at how my curls remained defined, but there was very little crunch!! This is very much like a medium/soft hold gel.
I will try to post some pictures of my hair with the product in action tomorrow.
Anyway, if you're on a budget or just plain tired of ordering online - this might be a very good option for you. For me, I'm just thrilled, because I go through a lot of product, and this recipe makes a lot of product to use:).
Ciao!!

Thanks...I'm going to try this on my TWA. Did you melt the cocoa-butter first?
Yes, I did. The cocoa butter is really hard and flaky in texture, so I had to to heat it up to get it to blend. By the way, love your hair in your avi!
What did you use to mix it?
I have a kitchenaid Stand mixer that I got on sale for about $100 when one of the Macy's stores in my area was going out of business! I use it just for mixing my hair products and butters:0).
I tried mixing my ecostyler and butter with a hand held mixer, but it just didn't come out as creamy - still works on the hair - but...:0(.
