Brahmi Powder Review

Well, I took some really nice pictures of my hair after I applied the brahmi mixture, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find my camera:p.

Anyway, the results of the brahmi powder were nice. I can't say that I'm jumping for joy, because I'm not sure that I really used enough powder to get the full effect of it's conditioning properties. What I did was I made my mixture with 4 tablespoons of brahmi powder, 3 tablespoons of honey, and 3 tablespoons of EVOO. I also added a bit of hot water to the mixture, which helped me to mix it.

The first thing I noticed about the powder was the smell. It was actually very pleasant. Just like henna it has an earthy scent, which I think is nice because it always makes me feel like I'm doing something good for my hair.

The next thing I noticed was how light the powder is. It is very easily moved, which I learned the hard way. I began stirring too quickly and the powder flew every where *darn*. All was not lost though, because after I added some water the mixing became a lot easier.

I started mixing with a fork, but then realized how much easier it would be to mix by using my hand. I pressed the brahmi mixture through my fingers many, many times until it was nicely mixed.

Once the mixture was ready, I slathered it all over my head. This was my biggest mistake. What I should have done was sectioned my hair off, just like I do with henna and apply section by section. I also should have made a lot more mixture because I ran out fairly quickly - my hair just sucked it up.

After I applied it to my hair, I let it sit on my head for about 40 minutes then rinsed. I then co-washed, and deep conditioned(trader joe, etc.). I actually slept with the deep conditioner in.

Regarding rinsing out the powder - it was actually very easy, I just rinsed and rinsed and then rinsed some more, but it wasn't like henna where it dries on the hair if you're not careful, no it was more about just ensuring that you rinsed all the fine grit out very well. After I rinsed most of it out, I co-washed and that helped to remove the rest.

One benefit that I immediately noticed about the brahmi powder was that my scalp stopped itching also right away!

You see, I've been having an issue with an itchy scalp, because I've been applying too much product to my short hair in the back. I forget that I don't need as much product in that area, and I think that the added product really started to irritate my scalp. What was interesting was that it was itching so bad yesterday that I actually told my husband about it - something I never do.

Anyway, as soon as the brahmi powder was on my scalp, the itching stopped!! I'm not kidding - it really did! I was in shock.  It almost felt cool on my irritated areas, which were REALLY irritated because I had been itching them all day long.

Today, a whole 24 hours later, those areas still do not itch!! I am extremely pleased with that. So, given that aspect alone, I will definitely keep the brahmi powder in my routine.

Regarding the feel of my hair afterwards. It felt soft - but then I had just slept in my deep conditioner so I'm not sure if it was the DC or the brahmi that gave me softer hair. I can tell you that after using my hand to mix my brahmi powder, my hand felt very soft too, so I can only assume that the powder was able to do the same thing for my hair.

FCC, I can't thank you enough for sending the powder to try - it's a keeper!

Ciao!
