Clarifying

So, I applied my brahmi powder tonight, and I intend to report back on the results tomorrow. By the way, the long aid and clear ecostyler worked great - I said I would report back after my hair dried, and the results were that I had soft fluffy curls! Score!!! And for the price - you really can't beat it. Initially, I wasn't too sure how well it would turn out, because my hair was still damp, but once it dried - the results were great!

Now, on to clarifying. I wanted to add a quick post about clarifying, because this is what I did before using the brahmi powder tonight. A lot of people complain from time to time about their hair being overly dry, and nothing they do seems to help. Or they might also notice that their hair is more frizzy than normal. I mean, frizz is obviously a natural part of curly kinky highly textured hair, but this kind of frizzy is different -  and some how you know it. Anyway, if there is one thing that has always helped me when my hair starts behaving this way, it's clarifying.

Now, if you do your research you will find that there are a lot of different ways to clarify. Some like to do it the all-natural way with apple cider vinegar or baking soda or shikaikai, I mean, there are literally dozens of ways to do it. But personally, I like to use Redkin Cleansing Cream. It isn't all natural...but I'm ok with that. This is a product that I have been using for several years, and I always get good results.

It is not something that you want to use often, in my case, I might use it maybe  once every 1 to 2 months. I do use cones, so the need to clarify becomes more important the more cones I'm putting on my hair.

This is what I did tonight with my brahmi powder: I clarified first with my Redkin cleansing cream, then I applied my brahmi recipe with honey and EVOO. I let it sit on my head for about 40 minutes wrapped in a towel, then co-washed the powder out with my v05 mixture. After that - you guessed it again- I applied my Trader Joe Nourishing Spa and Qhemets OHHB. It's actually sitting on my hair right now, and since it's getting so late, I will probably just sleep in it. I have never used the brahmi, but I have obviously used the trader joe mixture, and even after clarifying and getting that "sqeeky clean" feeling (after I apply my DT), my hair feels wonderful, and back "in balance" again.

Anyway, every head of hair is different so you have to do what you believe works best  for your hair. But if you end up having some of the issues I described above, particularly the overly dry hair, and nothing else seems to work - you might want to consider clarifying - just to give yourself a clean slate. After that, condition, condition, condition, and then condition some more.

One final note: Obviously, there are many reasons why your hair might be overly dry, so I am not implying that clarifying will be your cure all. You really need to look at your hair routine and determine whether what you are experiencing is  simply product buildup, which clarifying can help, or whether you hair is damaged in some way. Perhaps due to dyeing or using too much heat, etc. Neither or these will really be helped by clarifying, so just keep that in mind as you are making your decisions about what products to use.

Ciao!
